Curling: Sweden crowned LGT World Curling Champions 2023

Thrilling final sees Sweden edge out Canada

The World Curling Championships will take place in Sweden in 2024

Olympic champions Sweden have claimed the LGT World Curling Championship title after a thrilling 6-5 victory over Canada in Sunday's gold medal final. The victory marks Sweden's first world championship title since 2018 and their fourth overall.

The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading deuces in the first two ends. Sweden took control of the game in the third end, scoring a triple to take a 5-2 lead. Canada fought back to tie the game in the sixth end, but Sweden's Niklas Edin made a key shot in the seventh end to give his team a 6-5 lead. Canada had a chance to tie the game in the eighth end, but they were unable to convert their final shot.

Edin, who was named the MVP of the tournament, said that he was proud of his team's performance. "We played really well all week and I'm so happy that we were able to win the gold medal," he said. "Canada is a great team and they gave us a really tough game, but we were able to make the shots when we needed to."

The World Curling Championships will next be held in Sweden between 20 and 27 April 2024.
