Shapovalov Falls Short in US Open Doubles

First-Round Loss Ends Canadian's Doubles Campaign

Denis Shapovalov and Rohan Bopanna Fall in Straight Sets

Canadian Denis Shapovalov and Indian partner Rohan Bopanna were eliminated from the US Open doubles tournament, losing to the Spanish duo of Pablo Andujar and Pedro Martinez in straight sets on Thursday.

The Canadians, who received a wildcard entry into the tournament, struggled to find their rhythm against the experienced Spanish pair, who won 6-4, 7-5 in just over an hour on Court 13.

Despite a promising start that saw them break serve in the opening game, Shapovalov and Bopanna were unable to maintain their momentum, as Andujar and Martinez quickly leveled the set and took control with a break in the ninth game before serving out the set.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with Shapovalov and Bopanna breaking serve in the third game, but the Spanish pair responded with two breaks of their own to take a 4-2 lead.

The Canadians fought back to level the set at 4-4, but Andujar and Martinez proved too strong in the end, breaking Shapovalov's serve in the 11th game before serving out the match to secure their place in the second round.

The loss marks the end of Shapovalov's US Open campaign, as he was also eliminated from the singles tournament in the second round.

Despite the disappointing result, Shapovalov can take solace in a strong season that has seen him reach the semifinals of Wimbledon and win the ATP 250 title in Adelaide.
